Redmi, Xiaomi and POCO are all Xiaomi, and the name on the box tells you the price tier more than the hardware. The proof: the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G costs ₹36,999 and the POCO X8 costs ₹29,999, both with 8GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chip, a 9,000 mAh battery and 67W charging. Pick by the spec sheet, not the logo. India prices below were checked on 23 October 2026.

What is the difference between Redmi, Xiaomi and POCO?

Xiaomi is the parent company and keeps its own name for the flagships, the numbered phones with Leica-badged cameras. Redmi is its value line, built around big batteries and bright screens. POCO is its performance line, sold on speed and price. All three run Xiaomi’s software.

In rupees, the ladder looks like this on Xiaomi’s brand page and POCO’s: Redmi covers the cheap end up to ₹50,000, POCO sits in the middle, and the Xiaomi name starts where the other two stop.

Name Phone Today’s price What it shows
Redmi Redmi A7 ₹12,999 3GB of RAM, a 4G chip and Android Go
Redmi Redmi Note 15 5G ₹28,999 108MP stabilised camera, 5,520 mAh battery

Is a POCO the same phone as a Redmi?

Often the same hardware, rarely the same price. The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and the POCO X8 match on every headline number on our pages, and the POCO is ₹7,000 cheaper at 8GB + 128GB.

Figures from The Synap’s Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and POCO X8 pages, 23 October 2026.

The POCO X8 is the better buy here. The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G is the poor-value one: ₹7,000 for the same chip, battery and screen, with a 256GB version at ₹39,999 as its one practical extra.

The pattern is not “POCO always wins”. The Redmi Turbo 5 costs ₹41,999 for 8GB + 256GB against ₹36,999 for the POCO X8 Pro, but it carries a 7,540 mAh battery against 6,500 mAh. Both use MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 family and charge at 100W. Here the Redmi charges you for a bigger battery.

When does the Xiaomi name make sense?

Only when you want something Redmi and POCO do not sell: a periscope zoom or flagship cameras. The Xiaomi 17T costs ₹69,999 for 12GB + 256GB, while the POCO X8 Pro with the same 12GB + 256GB is ₹39,999. That ₹30,000 buys a 5x periscope telephoto and little else: both have 6,500 mAh batteries, and the POCO charges faster, at 100W against 67W.

At the top, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra costs ₹1,39,999, which is ₹50,000 more than the Xiaomi 17. They share the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and the Xiaomi 17 has the bigger battery and 100W charging. The extra money is for the 1-inch sensor and the zoom camera. Skip the Ultra if photography is not your main reason.

Do Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi phones get the same updates?

No, and this is where the Xiaomi name can cost you more for less. The Redmi Note 17 and POCO X8 pages list four Android updates and six years of security fixes, as promised by the makers. The Redmi A7 promises two Android updates and four years of security fixes. For the Xiaomi 17T and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Xiaomi India does not state a promise at all, as our pages show. Our update promise explainer covers how other brands compare.

Which name should you shop under?

  • Under ₹15,000: Redmi. The Redmi A7 Pro 5G at ₹14,499 adds a 6,300 mAh battery and four promised updates over the ₹12,999 Redmi A7.
  • ₹25,000 to ₹31,000: POCO. The POCO X8 at ₹26,999, or the POCO X8 Power at ₹30,999 if battery life matters most.
  • Gaming at ₹35,000 to ₹47,000: POCO again, the POCO X8 Pro at ₹36,999 or the POCO X8 Pro Max at ₹46,999.
  • Photos and zoom: Xiaomi, with the Xiaomi 17T as the cheaper way in.

If you shop by budget, our best phones under ₹30,000 list puts them next to rivals from other brands. Prices have been rising this year, so see why phone prices keep rising in India before festive sales start.

Quick answers

Is Redmi better than POCO?
