The Synap verdict

Buy the iPhone 17 at ₹99,900. Pay ₹50,000 more for the iPhone Air only if a 5.64 mm body matters more to you than a second camera, battery and charging speed.

You want the best all-round iPhone under ₹1 lakh, with two cameras, 40W charging and a physical SIM slot

Skip it if

How we test

Buy the iPhone 17 at ₹99,900. The iPhone Air costs ₹50,000 more for the same 256GB, and for that money you get a body 2.31 mm thinner and 12 g lighter, but one rear camera, a smaller battery and half the charging speed.

Both prices are today’s prices on our phone pages. The only reason to pick the Air is that you want the thinnest iPhone and will pay for it. Everyone else should read the table below and keep the ₹50,000.

How much more does the iPhone Air cost than the iPhone 17?

The iPhone Air costs ₹50,000 more at every storage size they share. That is about half as much again as the iPhone 17 at 256GB, and it is the same gap at 512GB.

Version iPhone 17 iPhone Air Extra for the Air
256GB ₹99,900 ₹1,49,900 ₹50,000
512GB ₹1,24,900 ₹1,74,900 ₹50,000
1TB Not offered ₹2,24,900 Not comparable
Today’s prices on The Synap’s iPhone 17 and iPhone Air pages, read on 21 October 2026, before bank and exchange offers.

Put differently, the thin body costs about ₹21,600 for every millimetre it saves, and about ₹4,167 for every gram. An iPhone 17 with double the storage (₹1,24,900) still comes in ₹25,000 below the base iPhone Air.

What do you give up to get the iPhone Air?

You give up a camera, battery, charging speed and a SIM tray. The iPhone Air has a single 48MP rear camera, so there is no ultra wide for group shots in a small room or a wide view of a monument. The iPhone 17 has both.

Specs from The Synap’s iPhone 17 and iPhone Air pages. Battery life figures are Apple’s claims; no independent test is cited here.

Apple claims up to 27 hours of video playback for the iPhone Air against up to 30 hours for the iPhone 17. Apple’s own figures, so treat them as a ceiling, and note that no independent battery test is cited here. The batteries tell the same story: 3,149 mAh against 3,692 mAh.

The Air is also eSIM only in India, according to our page, so there is no physical SIM tray. That is fine if your operator supports it, and a hassle if you swap SIMs when you travel. Our eSIM guide explains the switch step by step.

What does the iPhone Air do better?

It is lighter, thinner and has a bigger screen. At 165 g and 5.64 mm it is a phone you notice less in a shirt pocket, and its 6.5-inch display is 0.2 inch larger than the 6.3 inches on the iPhone 17.

It also has the faster chip, an A19 Pro against the A19, though both have a 5-core GPU and Apple gives both a 120Hz screen with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. In daily use that is unlikely to be the deciding gap, and no independent benchmark is cited here.

Which iPhone should you actually buy?

The best value is the iPhone 17 at 256GB for ₹99,900. If you shoot a lot of video, the 512GB version at ₹1,24,900 is the better spend than moving to the Air. The poor-value pick is the iPhone Air at 512GB or 1TB: ₹1,74,900 or ₹2,24,900 buys you a thinner phone, not a better one.
